Late summer in Sweden is something special. The light is soft, the evenings a little cooler, and crayfish parties are happening all over the country. Soon I will bring that feeling and the entire tradition all the way to the other side of the world.
In early September I am returning to Japan for Expo 2025 in Osaka. For me, this is a place where the world comes together to share ideas, culture, innovation, and of course, food.
Nordic Food Day, September 2
The first stop will be Nordic Food Day. Here we will showcase Nordic food in all its simplicity and creativity, with ingredients that tell the story of our seasons, our climate, and our commitment to sustainability. I love the connection between Nordic and Japanese cuisine, both valuing clean flavors, quality, and respect for the ingredient.
Swedish Crayfish Party at the Nordic Pavilion, September 5
Three days later, on September 5, it will be time to celebrate! We are inviting everyone to a Swedish crayfish party at the Nordic Pavilion.
Imagine long tables decorated with bright colors, guests wearing paper hats with crayfish prints, toasts raised in rhythm with the songs, and of course plenty of freshly cooked crayfish.
Even though it is still warm in Japan in September, we are bringing the feeling of celebrating “the end of summer” in our own way. It will be an evening filled with tradition and curiosity, and perhaps a few Japanese touches that make it even more unique.
Why a Swedish crayfish party in Japan?
For me, food is a language that everyone understands. Hosting a crayfish party is not just about serving food, it is about creating a sense of togetherness, joy, and cultural exchange. I hope that guests in Osaka will leave not only full, but also carrying a little piece of the Nordic late summer in their hearts.
See you in Osaka!
And... If you happen to be in Japan in September, come by the Nordic Pavilion. For those following from a distance, I will share photos and stories from both Nordic Food Day and the crayfish party here on the blog and in my social channels.
